THE Casey Demons were defeated by a strong Swans side featuring 20 AFLW-listed players in Round 5 of the Rebel VFLW.

Despite facing a formidable AFLW side, the Demons showcased unwavering determination throughout the game. While the final score didn't reflect their efforts, there were plenty of positives to take away from the match.

Delany Madigan's goal in the second quarter injected a spark of hope for the Demons. It highlighted her ball awareness and was complemented by her impressive defensive contributions throughout the game.

Georgia Gall's timely goal just before halftime and outstanding marking skills provided a much-needed morale boost for the team under pressure.

The ruck work was a standout feature for the Dees, with Tahlia Gillard dominating with an impressive 36 hit-outs, providing valuable opportunities for her teammates to gain possession.

Although the team did not convert these opportunities into scoring plays, its effort in the ruck was commendable and laid a strong foundation for future matches.

In defence, Lily Johnson and Georgia Gall were crucial in thwarting Sydney's attacks, showcasing their defensive prowess and commitment to trying to deny the opposition scoring opportunities.

The Swans kept up the relentless pressure for three quarters, and Casey's defence held strong, limiting Sydney to just one goal in the final quarter.

Throughout the game, the Demons displayed tenacity and determination, which is evident in their high tackle count and relentless pursuit of the ball. In the face of a strong opponent, the team remained persistent in their efforts, with players like Meg Macdonald and Alex Kirkwood leading the charge in midfield with their tackling and disposal efforts.

Shree Fairchild was unwavering in her commitment and resilience all afternoon, embodying the team's spirit with her never-say-die attitude.

Despite the result, the Dees can take some positives from their performance. They fought hard until the final whistle and showed glimpses of their potential. Casey looks ahead to preparing for their meeting with the Southern Saints next Saturday.
