First quarter: Carlton 4.5.29 to Melbourne 2.2.14

Carlton got out of the blocks early in the match kicking the first goal through Dylan Buckley.

Melbourne had its chance with Aaron vandenBerg missing directly in front, he made a mends though a few minutes later running in to open goal. In quick succession Carlton put two majors on the scoreboard, with Andrejs Everitt and Matthew Wright kicking truly.

Carlton added another major mid way through the first quarter with Dylan Buckley kicking truly. Carlton’s forward half pressure was outstanding in the first quarter.

Melbourne seemed to get it back on even terms, with a great running goal through Jayden Hunt late in the first term.

Second quarter: Carlton 7.8.50 to Melbourne 4.8.32

Again Carlton got the scoreboard ticking over early with a goal from Patrick Cripps, after receiving a free kick from a Melbourne holding the ball decision.

A lucky kick from a pack resulted in another Carlton goal to Liam Sumner. Melbourne registered its first major in the second term at the 12-minute mark.

Forward Jesse Hogan kicked a nice goal around his body and a courageous mark from youngster Clayton Oliver resulted in a goal after receiving a 50m penalty after a late hit.

In what was a tense 10 minutes Carlton got a goal late through some nice ball movement with Nick Graham kicking a major.

Third quarter: Carlton 10.10.70 to Melbourne 6.10.46

The rain started to pour down in the third term, making conditions extremely tough for both sides. Melbourne got the first major from Tommy Bugg, Carlton then hit back with a goal from Nick Graham.

It wasn’t until the 20-minute mark that Carlton hit the scoreboard again, this time through Liam Jones to extend Carlton’s lead.

After some nice work from Aaron vandenBerg and smart play from Dean Kent, Alex Neal-Bullen was able to run into an open goal. 

 

Carlton 11.12.78 defeated Melbourne 7.16.58

The last term started with a nice goal from big Maxy Gawn. Carlton hit back with a major from Andrew Phillips. Carlton won the game by 20 points.
