James Frawley, Colin Garland andNathan Jones have been nominated by their Demons teammates for the 2013 Be the Influence AFL Players MostValuable Player Award.

The Leigh Matthews Trophy, proudly presented by Be the Influence, remains the only peer-voted award in the AFL industry andrecognises qualities such as versatility, ability to perform under pressure,leadership and courage.

Frawley has led the Melbourne backlinethrough a difficult period and has held his own against the opposition’s bestforward each week.

Nathan Jones is one the most hardworking midfielders at the club and he has performed well as a senior playerand leader on an extremely young team.

Garland has partnered with Frawley indefence and has begun to gather more of the ball across half-back.

As part of the AFL PlayersAssociation awards, Garland has also been nominated for the Robert Rose MostCourageous Award, presented by Fire Ready Victoria while Matt Jones is in therunning for Best First Year Player, presented by Be the Influence.

Jack Grimes and Jack Trengove willcompete with the other skippers across the competition for Best Captain,presented by L’Oreal Men Expert.

The MVP voting is a two-stageprocess; beginning with each player voting for the three teammates he considersto have been the most valuable this season. 

Each club’s votes are then tallied toform a nomination list comprising 54 players across the 18 teams.

Then, in the second round of voting,all AFL players choose from the list of 51 nominees to determine who will bethe MVP (they cannot vote for players from their own team in second round).

The 2013 Be the Influence AFL Players’ MVP Award Winners will be announcedon Tuesday September, 10 at the Peninsula, Docklands.
